A woman identified as Berida Irawo has recounted how she was allegedly attacked by her husband, Jacob Irawo, following a disagreement at their residence in a Kogi community. Irawo spoke about the incident during an interview with Arise Television, shared on the station’s YouTube channel from 2:16 on Monday, August 17, 2026.
According to the report, residents of the community remain shocked by the alleged attack, which reportedly occurred after a disagreement between Irawo and her husband. The couple had reportedly been married for four years before the incident.
Irawo explained that the disagreement began while she was cooking after her husband asked about some of his clothes. She said she told him that she had disposed of the clothes because they had been used for a long time.
According to her, her husband became angry and demanded that she produce the clothes. She said, “I was cooking, so my husband came to ask me about his clothes. So I told him that I have burn those clothes that he has been using them for a long time. So he now said I didn’t tell him that I’m going to burn the clothes.”
She added, That I should go and provide the clothes. He was very angry, but he was still angry. He went and took a cup and poured some petrol from his bike. That, I should provide the clothes also. I ran out of the like two times. Then, I remember that I was cooking.”
Irawo further recounted how she attempted to escape during the confrontation before the alleged attack occurred. She said, “So, because he took the petrol inside then I drew nearer. So when I drew nearer, he came out and poured the petrol on me. And I was running, he ran after me. So, I fell down. From where I fell down, he brought the lighter. He brought the lighter and lit it on me.”
