Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the National Assembly, has launched a scathing critique of the Tinubu administration, describing the appointment of Nyesom Wike as the Minister of the FCT as the president’s most damaging misstep.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television from 10:55 on July 14 , Kingibe expressed strong disapproval of the former Rivers State governor’s conduct as FCT Minister, asserting that his actions have undermined public trust and governance in the capital territory.
“Well, it’s my personal opinion that that is rather unfortunate because if I were making a list of all the things that President Tinubu has done wrong, the greatest wrong he’s done to himself, the thing that has demarcated him the most has been on Minister Weeke because FCT is a mini Nigeria,” she said.
Highlighting what she termed acts of “impunity,” Kingibe added, “Even people who vote in other places, they live here or they come and go. And when you watch the impunity, it doesn’t speak, it doesn’t settle this government.”
She emphasized that the residents of the FCT are more concerned with leadership and development than party affiliations: “The people of FCT, Abinisho, were not really hostile to president because we’re not that way inclined. We’re not focused on parties. We focus on actions and how did you govern us?”
Citing specific grievances, Kingibe accused Wike of revoking land intended for a general hospital in Bwari: “Minister Wike revokes it and he’s having some sort of a market or mall or something put on it. Now, how do you think people will feel… not take it and give it to your crony. And all these things are documented.”
She also alleged aggressive policies on ground rent enforcement: “Minister Wike has been harassing all of FCT over ground rent. In fact, he’s not giving any time. If you don’t pay your 2k that you owe, we will revoke your whole house for 80k or 2k or whatever the ground rate is. It varies from people to people, including embassies.”
Questioning the transparency of Wike’s administration, she concluded, “I have documents and if this Minister Wike is so popular, how come it’s so easy to get secret documents of everything that’s going on within the FCDA?”
