The Chief of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, conducted a high-level visit to the Gush Etzion Junction on Thursday following a fatal terror attack that resulted in the death of a 22-year-old Israeli and the neutralization of two Palestinian assailants.

According to Times of Israel, escorted by senior commanders from Central Command and the Judea and Samaria Division, Lt. Gen. Zamir carried out a thorough situational assessment at the shopping complex where the stabbing and shooting attack occurred.

He emphasized the critical importance of maintaining persistent counterterrorism operations across the region stating,

“We will continue our counterterrorism operations, reach the murderers and those who sent them, and hold them accountable”.

The brutal assault unfolded when two terrorists, armed with knives, infiltrated the shopping center and fatally wounded a security guard before initiating gunfire.

Civilians, including off-duty military personnel, engaged the assailants, with at least one bystander intervening to eliminate a shooter amid the chaos.

In the aftermath, both terrorists were shot dead apparently by armed civilians.

During his visit, Zamir issued directives for a series of security measures: setting roadblocks, imposing curfews, and initiating searches in nearby towns while demanding enhanced intelligence-sharing and military patrols to prevent similar threats.

He also extended condolences and reassurance to the victim’s family, Our deepest condolences.

We will use all tools at our disposal and reach the murderers in order to hold them accountable.

Regional officials, including Central Command and Judea and Samaria Division commanders, accompanied him during the visit, reinforcing a unified response across military and security branches.

Lt. Gen. Zamir’s visit underscores the IDF’s intensified posture toward terror threats in West Bank settlements since the October 2023 escalation.

He emphasized that such attacks “should have ended otherwise,” highlighting the urgency for continuing vigilance and rapid response to ensure civilian safety at regional junctions and public centers.
