ADC: I Don’t Believe ‎In A Yoruba Is In Office And Another Yoruba Teaming Up With Other Part – Showunmi

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Sowunmi, has stated that the newly formed political coalition against President Bola Tinubu will not succeed in 2027, as reported by Punch on Thursday, 3rd July, 2025.

He made this statement at a town hall meeting of The Alternative Movement in Abeokuta.

Sowunmi, who is also the National Coordinator of The Alternative Movement, said the coalition, led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is based on selfish ambition.

He said the people involved only seek personal gain and have no real plan to help Nigeria.

According to him, the coalition, which includes former Senate President David Mark and ex-Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, lacks the strength and credibility to challenge Tinubu.

He added that some of the members have a history of damaging the parties they once belonged to.

Sowunmi said Nigeria follows a power-sharing tradition where the presidency rotates between the North and South.

He argued that this should not be disrupted, and it would be wrong for another southern candidate to run again in 2027, shortly after Tinubu’s term.

He also said that President Tinubu has only spent two years in office and should be given a chance to work in peace.

He warned against political distractions that may stop the president from focusing on governance.

According to him, the country will have a clearer picture by Tinubu’s third year in office.

Sowunmi said he will begin a nationwide tour in the coming months to promote political education.

He urged citizens to take elections seriously and avoid vote buying and voter apathy.

“We don’t believe that a Yoruba man should be doing four years stretch and another Yoruba man will also be teaming up with some group for the other part of the country to do 12 years. And if they are looking for someone in the opposition who can make a dent, I can easily tell them but certainly not this coalition.”

‎“He still have two more years to spend. By third year, may be we shall take our decision but in the meantime, we may not know who can defeat him but we know that these ones (the coalition) can’t do anything,” he said.
