Popular Nollywood actress Adunni Ade has spoken candidly about the challenges she faced with her spiritual life after moving abroad, revealing how her journey led her away from—and eventually back to—her religious roots.
In a heartfelt interview featured on WithChude, the actress opened up about the personal battles she endured and the emptiness she felt while disconnected from her faith.
“I was born as a Muslim. I studied Islamic Religious Studies in secondary school, but when I left Nigeria and moved back to the States,” she revealed.
Adunni recalled her time living in Kentucky, a U.S. state she described as racially segregated, which made it even harder for her to maintain her spiritual practices.
“My mom lives in Kentucky and is dominated by white people. It’s more of a racist state in America. So, I couldn’t find a mosque there.
I went astray from Islam and God in general. That was when I experienced so much darkness in my life at that time.”
She shared how the turning point in her spiritual life came when she encountered a pastor from the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), who reignited her connection with the divine.
After returning to Nigeria, Adunni said she began to reconnect with Islam in her own quiet way, away from public scrutiny.
She clarified her view of the Islamic faith, noting that its true essence lies in inner character rather than visible religious symbols.
Adunni expressed that opening up about her spiritual path was about honesty and no longer living in secrecy.
