Former President Goodluck Jonathan has commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State for his exemplary integrity during his tenure as Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly. Speaking at an event, Jonathan praised Oborevwori for his remarkable act of returning 500 million naira of unspent public funds.
In a video shared by Arise TV from 1:15:39, Jonathan equated Oborevwori’s action to a certificate of integrity that surpasses even a Ph.D. He said it is rare for public officers or civil servants to willingly return funds to the government. He said Oborevwori’s willingness to return unspent funds reflects a high level of integrity and trustworthiness. He lauded this demonstration of integrity, stating that it sets Oborevwori apart as a person of commendable character.
In Jonathan’s words: “When you were Speaker you returned N500m unspent money, that is a certificate you have gotten that is more than a PhD certificate. It is not easy for a public officer or even a civil servant to refund money to government. In most cases, it is extremely difficult and as a speaker you were able to do that.
