Nigerian activist and convener of the Country First Movement, Prof Chris Mustapha Nwaokobia has praised the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and Trade Union Congress, TUC for addressing the need for living wage.
His statement is coming after the Federal Government agreed to pay a minimum wage that is higher than N60k.
In the past that Chris Mustapha Nwaokobia made on his official X handle on Tuesday, he said no one should insult NLC and TUC because they have raised the bar remarkably high. He said what they achieved is perhaps the highest since the fuel hike protest in Ojota in 2012.
He said amid threat of jail and imprisonment, the organized labour rose, mobilize themselves and shut down the country with the intention of calling the government to address the need for living wage.
Prof. Chris Mustapha Nwaokobia wrote on his official X handle;
“Let no one call them names, they have raised the progressive bar remarkably high, perhaps the highest since the 2012 Ojota fuel hike protestation. Against formidable attrition and debauchery, against the threat of jail and imprisonment, against a government sold to propaganda and gaslighting, they rose, they mobilized and shut down the nation with intent to call government to address the need for living wage, and they did so effectively, effectually and efficiently for 48 hours. I am impressed and enamoured by the commitment of the NLC and the TUC to take back our country for good with the call for living wage as veritable weapon. Kudos”….Sée Móre
