Dr. Leloonu Nwibubasa, the governorship aspirant on the platform of the ADC in Rivers State, has asserted that it is a shame that the governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, upon which leadership was entrusted can, in a moment of time, turn 360 degrees, throwing the people under the bus.
In an interview from 5:00 with Arise News, Nwibubasa made this statement while reacting to Governor Fubara’s recent comments on his political stance, the crisis with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and the governor’s decision to refuse to contest for a second term and his open declaration of support for Kingsley Chinda as his likely successor.
He said he was not surprised after listening to the governor, but he was disappointed, and Rivers people are disappointed. He stated that many had seen this coming during the days of the emergency rule.
He said his position has been clear that Governor Fubara going into negotiation with Wike and later claiming to have a reconciliation and handing things back to his political godfather was a surrender.
He described the governor’s action as a long-term deceit, saying Fubara deceived not just his supporters but the people of Rivers State. Nwibubasa recalled that in Fubara’s maiden speech, he promised to stand as a liberator of Rivers State from Wike, who had taken the state for granted and treated it as his private estate.
He recalled that Fubara had promised not to throw Rivers people on the ground and vowed to defend the state even if it cost him his life. Nwibubasa said the same man is now telling the few supporters who remained that he has gone back to his family and they can find their way if they are not comfortable with his decision.
In his words, “But this is the same man coming to tell probably a few of his supporters that has hanged on that, oh, I’ve gone back to my family, and now you can find your way if you are not comfortable with my decision.”
