The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has withdrawn from all previously agreed reconciliation efforts, accusing key party leaders of betrayal and repeated breaches of trust.
Wike, in a statement posted on his official X account, traced the PDP’s internal strife back to the aftermath of the 2023 general elections.
However, Umar Sani, spokesperson for the PDP’s 2019 presidential campaign, responded sharply to Wike’s withdrawal.
Posting on his official X (formerly Twitter) page, Sani urged the minister to step aside for the sake of the party’s unity and future.
He argued that Wike’s actions are part of a broader pattern of disruption that has plagued the PDP for years.
“Wike must be told: that the PDP does not belong to him. It is a national platform built on the trust and sacrifices of millions. If he has any conscience left, he must step back, allow peace to return, and let the PDP chart a new course free from blackmail and manipulation,” Sani stated.
Sani detailed Wike’s political journey as one deeply intertwined with the PDP’s structure, noting that Wike’s rise from local government chairman to minister and two-term governor was made possible by the party’s platform.
Yet, despite benefiting immensely, Wike has been a central figure in the party’s internal crises, influencing the rise and fall of multiple national chairmen and often abandoning allies once they no longer served his ambitions.
The spokesperson also highlighted Wike’s contradictory political moves, including his open alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the rival APC party, his inconsistent stance on zoning, and his sabotage of the PDP’s 2023 presidential campaign.
According to Sani, these actions reveal a politics driven more by ego and personal gain than loyalty to the party’s ideals.
The recent sealing of the PDP national secretariat at Wadata Plaza, just days before the NEC meeting, was described by Sani as a desperate tactic aimed at undermining the party’s leadership process.
He called on Wike to relinquish control and allow the PDP to heal and move forward.
