According to Vanguard news,the father of a 15-year-old boy who was shot by police in Ibadan, Oyo State, has gone into hiding. He is very sad and angry about the death of his son, Kehinde Alade, who was killed by a stray bullet during a police chase.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered an investigation into the unfortunate occurrence. The boy was hit by a stray bullet fired by a police officer during a high-speed chase in Ibadan.

The chase happened near Gbagi Market Road as police and traffic officers were chasing a car believed to be carrying internet fraudsters, known as ‘Yahoo boys’. During the chase, the bullet accidentally hit the teenager.

The boy’s death caused many people in Ibadan to protest.

The father, Alade, explained what happened when he was talking to reporters at his house,saying that he was driving his children to school that day. There were five children in the car, and some were going to different places.

He recounted that he stopped briefly to pump the car’s tyre. When he started moving again, he saw a car coming towards him, which belonged to the traffic authority. He didn’t know it was them at first. They tried to stop him, and his car was hit. He then reversed and tried to get past them, not knowing that four vehicles were chasing him.

As their towing vehicle hit his car again, he tried to escape, but he heard a gunshot and the next thing he saw was his son crying “Daddy” from the back seat. He told his son to be quiet as they were leaving, but later found out his son had been shot by a stray bullet.

When he stopped, people rushed the injured boy to the hospital, but sadly, the boy died at the University College Hospital (UCH).

The father said he is not a suspect, explaining that he didn’t know the police were chasing fraudsters; he was just taking his children to school. The boy who was shot was in SS1 and would have turned 14 in November. His older brother was writing his WAEC exams that day.
