On May 21, 2025, Lere Olayinka, spokesperson for FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, responded to a statement by Arise TV presenter Rufai Oseni about poverty in Nigeria.

Oseni, in a post on May 20, 2025, had questioned why some Nigerians act as though poverty does not exist, emphasizing the severe hunger crisis in the country. His post, which gained significant attention, sparked a broader conversation on social media.

Olayinka’s response, shared on his official X handle, took a critical tone.

He suggested that Oseni, who studied Animal Anatomy and Physiology at the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, might have contributed more directly to reducing hunger had he pursued a career aligned with his academic training instead of becoming an On-Air Personality (OAP).

Olayinka’s comment appeared to imply that professionals working in their fields of study could have a greater impact on societal challenges like food insecurity.
