Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has remained unconvinced about the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, being an ideal president for Nigeria.
In an interview with Channels TV, he claimed that Peter Obi’s rise to fame in the political space was assisted by the Christians’ opposition to the Muslim-Muslim ticket in the country.
He said: “The reason why he probably gathered more attention was this, the whole debate about Muslim-Muslim ticket. The Christians said you want to Islamize Nigeria, we want to Christianize to, who was the best person available to them, Peter Obi”
He completely downplayed Peter Obi’s position as a true opposition figure to the current administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He claimed that the former Anambra State governor isn’t genuinely against the policies of this administration. According to him, Peter Obi just wants a power switch and isn’t truly opposed to the ills of this APC government.
Omoyele Sowore asserted that Peter Obi has failed to actively oppose the flaws of this administration by organizing protests, especially when he has a large fan base from the Obidient Movement. For this reason, the former AAC presidential candidate has refused to be an admirer of Peter Obi or consider him capable of bringing effective change to Nigeria’s governance.
