A prosecution witness in the ongoing trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), reportedly testified that Kanu had confirmed making broadcasts in which he allegedly incited violence against President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

According to Daily Post, it was reported that during proceedings at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, the second prosecution witness, while being led in evidence by the prosecuting counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), stated that Kanu had admitted to the broadcasts during the recording of his statement on July 17, 2021.

The witness further told the court that in one of the broadcasts, Kanu allegedly announced a N100 million bounty on Wike’s head and called for the destruction of properties belonging to President Tinubu. The court was informed that the broadcasts, which had been saved on a flash drive, were identified by the witness and admitted into evidence. They were subsequently played in open court.

According to the witness, seven different broadcasts were presented. In the recording dated December 12, 2020, Kanu was said to have described the Eastern Security Network (ESN) as a vigilante group similar to the Amotekun Corps and Miyetti Allah, created to protect the South-East. Toward the end of that broadcast, Kanu allegedly urged his followers to target and kill Wike, accusing the minister of offering a N50 million bounty for the head of a Biafran. He was also quoted as saying that Wike did not deserve to live and that any governor involved in the killing of his people would face similar consequences.

In another broadcast dated October 20, 2020, which took place during the End SARS protests, Kanu was reported to have directed his supporters to incite violence in Lagos and to target Tinubu, whom he described as a traitor. He allegedly told his followers to kill police officers and other security personnel, asserting that Tinubu’s hotel should be burned and that he should not be allowed to escape.

Kanu said, “N100m for anyone who can take Wike down. Dead or alive, Wike is N100m. I will pay cash. Take down Wike, I will pay you cash.

“The bounty on Wike’s head is N100m. Get me his head, you will get N100m. Wike offered N50m for the head of a Biafran.
