Renowned journalist and politician, Dele Momodu, has weighed in on the ongoing controversy involving Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan describing the saga as politically charged.
Speaking during an interview on News Central TV from 8:53, Momodu argued that the uproar over alleged misconduct is being fueled more by political sentiments than by genuine concern for justice.
“Some of us believe that it has distracted our nation over whether somebody harassed a lady sexually or not,” Momodu said. “Unfortunately, nobody seems to understand that there are political dimensions to everything in Nigeria.”
Momodu suggested that the persistent public discourse surrounding the matter is a reflection of deeper political frustrations among Nigerians, particularly those disillusioned with the current administration.
“The Natasha and Akpabio saga for example, I believe the reason why a lot of Nigerians have taken to social media to talk about this issue daily is because of the animosity they have against the president,” he stated.
According to Momodu, Akpabio is being targeted because of his perceived closeness to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. “The Senate President is seen as a very, very absolute supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. So those who are not able to catch the president are now taking it out on the National Assembly,” he explained.
The controversy, which has dominated headlines and social media conversations in recent weeks involves unverified allegations and heated exchanges between the two senators. While the details remain contested, Momodu’s comments offer a different lens pointing to a broader political undercurrent influencing public perception and media narratives.
His remarks underscore the complex interplay between politics and public sentiment in Nigeria especially in the wake of growing scrutiny on government officials and institutions.
