Former Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, has responded to criticism over his political decisions, defending his recent political alignment as a collective and strategic move made in the interest of the state.
In an interview with Arise Television from 30:25, Okowa drew comparisons with Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi’s past political movements, questioning why his own actions were being subjected to moral scrutiny while similar shifts by others were not. He emphasised that the decision to realign politically was made in unity with key stakeholders in Delta State.
At some point during the interview, the former vice presidential candidate of PDP stated that “Obi has done a lot of movements. APGA to PDP and from the PDP to the Labour Party, and Dan Ulasi is asking him to return to the PDP. Then why should my movement now become a moral issue?
He went on to further state that “I believe that I belong to a political family here first in Delta State, and if we enter into a stakeholders meeting and we take a decision, I cannot stand alone, and the governor cannot stand alone.”
Regarding the decision he made alongside other stakeholders, Okowa stated that “we all agreed that we needed to move in the best interest of the state and our politics, and we believe that we took the right decision.”
