The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that former presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar does not keep to his promises, as reported by DAILY POST.
Wike made this statement during a media chat in Abuja on Friday and stated that he has no regrets about supporting President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 election.
Wike explained that in 2023, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was not popular due to poor performance by former President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.
Still, he said he could not support Atiku because he did not trust him.
He said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku’s party, is still struggling with internal issues, according to him, this shows the party is not ready to lead the country.
Wike shared an example from 2019, he said Atiku, Bukola Saraki, and Uche Secondus visited him and promised that he would nominate people for key ministerial positions if they won but after the election, Wike said the man he chose to be Attorney General was left out of legal team decisions.
He said this showed that Atiku did not keep his promise and stressed that he knew from the start that Atiku could not be trusted and added that his decision to support Tinubu was the right one.
He also questioned who he could support for the 2027 presidential election.
Wike said he cannot support someone who does not keep their word.
“One thing you must know is that Atiku does not keep to his words, I can tell you authoritatively what happened in 2019. Atiku, Saraki, and Secondus came to see me that I was going to nominate Attorney General and Minister of Petroleum.”
“When we lost the election, the man who was supposed to be the Attorney General did not know when the legal team was constituted,” he said.
