Minister of Works Senator Dave Umahi has expressed profound satisfaction with the ongoing construction of section one of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway, comparing the quality of work to divine architecture.

During a Channels TV interview, Umahi remarked, “On section one, I was on the project yesterday and today. So, I said to myself, if the street of this road can be this fantastic, I wonder how the streets of heaven will look like. And this will show you how satisfied I am.”

The minister provided specific progress updates on the massive infrastructure project. “For the beginning of section one, as of today, about 15 kilometers by two carriageways on average has been achieved, and at the end of the project, at the lake where section one stopped, about 5 kilometers has been achieved,” he stated.

Umahi outlined completion targets ahead of a presidential inspection. “The idea is that by 25th of May, 30 kilometers continuously will be made available for the Mr. President to commission. From the beginning of section one down to kilometer 0 to kilometer 20, and then we are jumping about 17 kilometers because of a settlement,” he explained.

He added that construction teams are working from multiple points simultaneously: “We have very high filling within that section, and then we are jumping it, and then we also get another 10 kilometers today – 10 kilometers from the end coming back to channel zero has been achieved.”
