Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, the Senate Deputy Chief Whip, has expressed regret over his choice of words during his recent altercation with former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili.
Speaking in an interview with Arise TV, Nwebonyi stated that he now feels sorry for how he spoke to Oby because she is old enough to be his mother. However, he also stated that his reaction was triggered by her actions.
Nwebonyi said that Oby publicly admitted that she told him to shut up before their altercation occurred. He explained that his abusive words were not intentional but a reaction to how he felt disrespected at the time.
In Nwebonyi’s words: “She has admitted publicly (that she told me to shut up) and having done so I commend her and I regret my choice of words to her because she is old enough to be my mother. But like I said, it is her action that brought up my reaction”
