According to a report by Al Jazeera on Monday, April 06, 2026, Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, has confirmed that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) carried out a major strike targeting a key petrochemical complex in southern Iran, marking a significant escalation in ongoing tensions.
In an official statement, Katz said, “The IDF has now powerfully attacked the largest petrochemical facility in Iran, which is located in Asaluyeh.” He added that two major facilities in the area, which collectively account for a substantial share of Iran’s petrochemical exports, have been disabled. “Now the two facilities, which together are responsible for about 85% of Iran’s petrochemical exports, have been put out of use and are not functioning,” he stated.
The Asaluyeh region is widely regarded as the center of Iran’s petrochemical industry. It hosts extensive infrastructure designed to process natural gas into a range of chemical products supplied to both domestic industries and international markets.
Iran’s petrochemical sector plays a critical role in its economy, representing a major source of export revenue and supporting various global supply chains. Disruption to facilities in this region could have broader economic implications, particularly in energy and industrial markets.
The Israeli Defense Ministry oversees national military operations, with the IDF executing strategic objectives as directed by government leadership. The latest strike underscores a focus on targeting infrastructure considered vital to Iran’s economic capacity.
While Israeli authorities have provided an initial assessment of the operation’s impact, independent verification of the damage and the extent of disruption remains ongoing. Officials have indicated that further evaluations will determine how long the affected facilities may remain non-operational.
The development adds to rising regional instability, as both sides continue to engage in actions affecting strategic and economic assets. Read_More…
