According to a recent report by Symfoni TV, In a surprising turn of events, three key appointees of Governor Siminalayi Fubara have resigned from the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) and formally announced their resignation before the Rivers State House of Assembly, dominated by lawmakers loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike.
During the Assembly sitting, the former commissioners—Professor Simeon, Dr. Lansbury, and Thompson, cited compliance with Section Four, Subsection Two* of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Law as the basis for their resignation. They each confirmed submitting their resignation letters to the Governor, the Commission’s Chairman, and other relevant authorities.
Professor Simeon, who served as Commissioner One in charge of political parties, stated, “I have forwarded my notice of resignation to His Excellency, the Governor, and copied the Speaker of this House. I am here to confirm that I am no longer a part of RSIEC.”
Similarly, Dr. Lansbury, formerly in charge of Budget, Research, and Statistics, and Mrs. Thompson, who oversaw Transport and Logistics, reaffirmed their resignations, expressing gratitude for their service while emphasizing their decision to step down.
The House, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, acknowledged their resignations without questioning their motives. Instead, the Speaker directed them out, signaling a swift and decisive end to their involvement in the electoral body.
