Sam Omatseye has stated that during the APC presidential primaries in 2022, several top politicians were misled into believing they had Buhari’s backing. He stated that former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and former minister Rotimi Amaechi were both made to believe they were Buhari’s preferred candidates.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Edmund Obilo on State Affairs program from 23:26, Omatseye said people close to Buhari gave Osinbajo and Amaechi false hope, making them think they had the president’s support. However, Buhari’s real choice was Senate President Ahmad Lawan. He added that Lawan, however, failed to get the presidential ticket
In Omatseye’s words: “A lot of things happened that time, you know the vice president then (Osinbajo) was running, Rotimi Amaechi was running and many of them were given false hope by people around the president that they were actually the annointed one but Lawal was the anointed one”
