According to a report in PUNCH, a devastating incident has shaken the community of Delta State University, Agbor, after a 100-level student, Precious Nosakaire, was arrested for her involvement in a fatal accident that claimed the life of a final-year nursing student, Awele Eluemunor. The accident occurred during a driving lesson when Nosakaire lost control of the vehicle, veering off the road and striking pedestrians.
According to SP Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer in Delta State, “Yes, it is confirmed, she killed a nursing student while one other is currently receiving treatment in the hospital. We have arrested the young girl but her boyfriend teaching her driving is at large and efforts are ongoing to arrest him”.
The accident happened on Tuesday in Agbor town, outside the university campus. A university source noted, “In as much as we condole with the family over the loss, the university does not have control outside the school. The incident happened in Agbor town”.
Awele, who was set to graduate in November, died immediately, while another lady, a hairdresser, sustained serious injuries. The boyfriend, who owns the car, fled the scene immediately after the accident.
The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Nosakaire, while efforts are underway to apprehend her boyfriend. The incident highlights the risks associated with inexperienced drivers and the importance of safety measures during driving lessons.
As the community mourns the loss of Awele, the university extends its condolences but emphasizes its limited jurisdiction outside campus boundaries.
