The 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has stated that his recent visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo was purely a courtesy call.

According to a report by Vanguard, Atiku Abubakar denied any political motive despite growing speculation that he may be preparing to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Atiku reportedly arrived at Obasanjo’s residence in Abeokuta, located within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, at approximately 12:37 p.m on Monday. He was accompanied by a delegation that included former Cross River State Governor Liyel Imoke, former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, and Senator Abdul Ningi, among others.

Upon arrival, elder statesman Otunba Oyewole Fasawe welcomed Atiku and his team before they proceeded to a private discussion with Obasanjo, which lasted about an hour and a half.

While addressing journalists after the meeting, Atiku emphasized that his visit had no connection to political ambitions. When questioned about a possible presidential bid in 2027, he dismissed the idea, maintaining that his trip was solely a courtesy visit.

“I am here on courtesy call. I’m not here to talk politics. I was not in Abeokuta to see Obasanjo because of 2027, it’s a courtesy visit,” Atiku said. “I am not going to talk about 2027 or politics. I am not here because of 2027,” he added.
