The Esa Oke Central Union has claimed that four residents were killed by alleged assailants in police uniforms. The violence occured amid tensions over the appointment of Prince Timileyin Oluyemi Ajayi as the Olujudo of Ido Ayegunle.

Osun State Police Command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, presented a different account of events in a phone interview with Daily Trust TV: “The Commissioner of Police drafted policemen from different places to go to the place to ensure that calmness is brought to that area. When they got to a point on their way, very close to Esa Oke, they met a log of wood on the road, which did not give them passage.”

PRO Opalola described an ambush scenario that led to a gun battle between the policemen and the attackers: “So, they came down to roll away the log of wood. As the policemen came down, there were gunshots from the bush and it injured 7 policemen.”

The Osun State Commissioner for Information has acknowledged the gravity of the situation, expressing the government’s shock at the developments. The commissioner confirmed the deployment of additional security personnel to restore order and identified the directive of the governor for a thorough investigation into the incident’s causes.
