According to a report by the Times of Israel on Tuesday July 14, 2026, Iran has criticized Britain’s decision to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a security threat, describing the move as both unjustified and irresponsible.

In a statement, Iran’s Foreign Ministry argued that the IRGC is an official branch of the country’s armed forces and accused the British government of violating international law by taking action against a state institution.

“The move is unjustified and irresponsible,” the Ministry said.

The response came a day after the UK introduced new measures prohibiting support for the IRGC and an affiliated organization under expanded powers designed to prevent foreign governments from using proxy groups for activities such as surveillance, sabotage and other hostile operations.

British authorities said the decision followed investigations into a series of arson and vandalism incidents targeting Jewish sites across the UK. According to the government, those attacks were allegedly carried out by a proxy group linked to and supported by Iran.
