Pastor W.F. Kumuyi, the General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, addressed a Ministers’ Conference, challenging the notion of specialized “Deliverance Ministries” in modern Christian practice.
He pointed out that many believers today seek deliverance from individuals or ministries that claim to free them from various spirits, such as territorial spirits or generational curses. However, Pastor Kumuyi emphasized that this concept is not found in the Bible.
In his message, he referred to Galatians 1:4, which says, “Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us.” Pastor Kumuyi reminded the audience that Christ is the ultimate deliverer and that believers should not place their faith in human deliverance ministries.
He noted that in the Gospels and the Book of Acts, there are no mentions of any minister who specializes in deliverance. He said, “Acts of the Apostles, from chapter 1 to the end, chapter 28, we don’t find a Deliverance Minister somewhere that everybody goes to.”
Instead, the apostles preached the Gospel, and through that message, those who accepted Christ were delivered from spiritual bondage.
Pastor Kumuyi stated, “We don’t find anyone specializing and saying, ‘Somewhere there, you know, people are being directed to him or her. He has, or she has, a Deliverance Ministry.'” He continued by emphasizing that the Gospel is the true source of deliverance. When the apostles preached, the chains and shackles of the enemy were broken, and people were set free through the power of Christ’s redemptive work on the cross.
In conclusion, Pastor Kumuyi encouraged believers to recognize Christ as the only source of true deliverance and to place their trust in His finished work.
