According to Daily Post, Joe Igbokwe, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has described former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, as more intelligent and capable than any minister in President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

His remarks come amid tensions between El-Rufai and the ruling party, following the former governor’s criticism of the APC for abandoning internal democracy and its founding principles. His comments sparked backlash from some allies of the president.

Reno Omokri, a vocal supporter of Tinubu’s administration, accused El-Rufai of fueling violence in Kaduna State during his tenure, calling him a “bloodthirsty tyrant” who allegedly enjoyed “seeing blood flowing on the streets of Kaduna.”

Amid the controversy, Igbokwe defended El-Rufai, emphasizing his contributions to the party’s success in the 2023 elections. He questioned why some figures within the APC worked against his ministerial nomination despite his efforts.

“APC Nigeria needs the former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai. He worked so hard for APC during the 2023 Presidential and Governorship Elections,” Igbokwe said.

He further lamented El-Rufai’s treatment, stating, “Who among all the ministers is greater, smarter, bolder, more proficient, and deeper than Mallam El-Rufai?”

Stressing the importance of El-Rufai to the party, he added, “For whatever reasons, APC Nigeria must not ignore this great man. We cannot afford to lose him to the rival party. He is one of the strong characters we cannot afford to lose at a time like this. Case rested.”

Igbokwe warned that losing the former governor to an opposition party would be a costly mistake for the APC, stressing the need to recognize his value within the party.
