According to a report from ChannelsTv, The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has expressed concerns about the possibility of foreign countries sponsoring terrorism in Nigeria.
In an interview with Channels TV, he highlighted that the presence of foreign currencies among arrested terrorists in the Northeast suggests external funding for their activities.
General Musa revealed that some detained terrorists were found with hard currencies, raising questions about the source of such funds.
He noted that not all nations support Nigeria’s growth and stability, citing envy as a potential factor.
Referring to predictions from 2015 that Nigeria wouldn’t survive, he remarked, “This is 2025, and we are still surviving.”
He acknowledged that while local criminal activities like kidnapping and armed robbery contribute to terrorism funding, the role of foreign entities cannot be ignored.
Musa suggested that certain nations might be envious of Nigeria’s progress and could be financially backing efforts to destabilize the country.
These remarks shed light on the multifaceted nature of terrorism in Nigeria, driven by both internal and external factors.
While local criminal networks play a role, the possibility of foreign interference poses a serious challenge.
Musa’s statements underline the need for stronger security measures and international collaboration to address the issue.
Despite ongoing efforts by Nigeria’s security forces to counter terrorism, significant challenges remain in uncovering and addressing the full extent of external involvement in these activities.
