Prominent Nigerian publisher and former PDP presidential aspirant, Dele Momodu, has called on UK Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch to cease what he describes as negative portrayals of Nigeria in her political discourse.
In a recent interview with Channels TV from 23:15, Momodu acknowledged Badenoch’s achievements while expressing concern about her characterization of Nigeria. “God has been very kind to Lady Kemi, as I like to call her, but I think she should try to ignore denigrating Nigeria, no matter how traumatized she’s been about Nigeria,” he stated.
Drawing from his own experience, Momodu added: “We’ve all been traumatized; I was in exile for 3 years, but I would never speak evil of Nigeria, especially in a foreign land.”
He emphasized that Badenoch’s political aspirations shouldn’t come at Nigeria’s expense. “She (Kemi Badenoch) does not need to abuse or attack Nigeria for her to become the next prime minister, if God says she will be the prime minister,” he said.
While expressing admiration for Badenoch’s accomplishments, Momodu offered direct advice: “I like and admire her, and she has done very well for herself, but she should resist the temptation of putting Nigeria down.”
Momodu concluded with a passionate defense of Nigeria’s reputation: “Nigeria is still one of the greatest countries on Earth. Don’t let us cut our nose to spite our face.”
