According to an interview from 10:28 on Channels Television on Monday, July 13, 2026, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, who represents the Oyo North Senatorial District, recounted the condition of the rescued victims at the military hospital, saying he was particularly moved by the sight of a woman and her one-year, seven-month-old baby.

Buhari said many of the rescued victims were severely dehydrated and required urgent medical attention. He explained that medical personnel administered oxygen to some of the victims while others were placed on intravenous drips for several hours as doctors worked to stabilize them.

According to him, “They put oxygen on his nose. The rest were dehydrated, and then they were trying to put drips on them. It was from 9:00 to 1:00, just on them. It was really, really pathetic, particularly for the woman with a 1-year-7-month-old baby. I was shocked. I still can’t fathom how that boy survived. In fact, I was just looking at him. So, unfortunately, he didn’t even know what was happening. It was the mother that was still crying.”
