In a significant video statement shared on Symfoni TV from 7:21, Eze Godspower Onuekwa, the President-General of Ogbakor Ikwerre Cultural Organisation, has addressed circulating rumors about potential Ohanaeze Ndigbo leadership appointments while issuing a stern warning to members of his community.
The cultural leader began his statement by acknowledging the potential validity of circulating information, stating, “In many cases, some rumors can be fact.” He then directly addressed the specific rumor at hand, noting, “It is now rumored that Ohanaeze Ndigbo intends to make an Ikwerre man the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.”
In response to this possibility, Onuekwa issued an unequivocal warning to any potential candidates from the Ikwerre community. “However, any person, no matter how highly placed, who may decide to accept this offer eventually becomes an enemy to the Ikwerre people,” he declared firmly.
This strong statement comes amid ongoing discussions about ethnic identity and cultural autonomy in Nigeria’s southeastern region. The President-General’s warning reflects the Ikwerre people’s determination to maintain their distinct cultural identity and independence from other ethnic organizations.
