In a revealing interview on Channels TV  From 17:51, prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Segun Showunmi has called for a fundamental shift in how opposition parties engage in national dialogue, specifically criticizing the approach taken by Peter Obi and his supporters.

During the televised discussion, Showunmi advocated for a more nuanced and constructive form of political opposition. He emphasized the importance of measured criticism rather than what he perceives as wholesale negativity.

“The whole concept of the alternative is that I want us to engage ourselves differently. I want the conversation of even the opposition to be a little bit more measured,” Showunmi stated during the interview.

The PDP chieftain particularly took issue with what he characterized as excessive negativity from certain opposition figures. In a pointed criticism directed at the former presidential candidate and his supporters, Showunmi declared, “I do not accept the style of Peter Obi and his gang, where the only thing they like to do is harvest misery and propel misery and push misery into the society.”

Showunmi expressed concern about the psychological impact of consistently negative political discourse on the populace. “You can’t run a country of extremely poor people that way, that’s too much. You have to think about the psychology of your people,” he emphasized.

The PDP leader advocated for a more balanced approach to opposition politics. “All nations go through things,” he noted, adding, “So, you can be an opposition, people like me that says, ‘We don’t agree with this. We don’t agree with that. Okay, this we get, but we’d rather you did it like this,’ rather than someone who is just a harbinger of frustration, anger, and never sees anything good in the country.”
