The All Progressives Congress (APC) caretaker committee chairman in Rivers State, Tony Okocha, has expressed deep concern over what he perceives as a growing disregard for traditional leadership structures in the state, as revealed during his recent appearance on Arise TV From 15:31.
Speaking about the current political climate, Okocha painted a troubling picture of the state’s leadership dynamics. “At the point where we are in the state, I wish you were here. You would find that elders have lost their voices,” he stated.
The APC chairman specifically called attention to controversial remarks allegedly made by Governor Siminalayi Fubara. “In fact, the governor, sometimes ago, said that Rivers people do not have elders. At a point when it was convenient for him, he said Rivers people do not have elders. I’m sure that’s on record,” Okocha revealed.
He further detailed the opposition’s response to these comments: “Some of us, who are on the opposition side, took him on for that statement and said, ‘Look, you cannot, for any reason, disregard Rivers people and the elders’.”
