Renowned public policy expert and former Nigerian Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has strongly criticized the nation’s political leadership, accusing them of undermining the democratic principle of separation of powers among the three arms of government.

In a tweet posted on her official handle, Ezekwesili highlighted what she described as a growing collaboration between the judiciary, legislature, and executive arms of government to erode democratic principles.

“Back-to-back, the minority population of public leaders of our Judiciary and their counterparts at the National Assembly are daily collaborating with the Executive Government of Nigeria and the Presidency of Nigeria to destroy the democratic principle of Separation of Powers among the 3 Arms of Government,” her tweet read.

She condemned the behavior of lawmakers during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s budget presentation, labeling it a “clowning circus.”

Additionally, she expressed outrage over the bail conditions set by an Ekiti magistrate court for political activist Dele Farotimi. The conditions reportedly included a prohibition against granting media interviews, a restriction Ezekwesili described as “ludicrous.”

She wrote further, “How long can this recklessness and rascality sustain? The answer is also a question—‘For how long more are our majority citizens prepared to condone the destructive criminal political culture of Nigeria’s political class?’”

Ezekwesili concluded her message, stating, “It’s all in our hands.”
