Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has shared his views on leadership and Nigeria’s challenges, speaking during an online discussion titled “Boiling Point Arena” on Sunday night, as reported by PUNCH. The event was broadcast by some private radio stations in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The session focused on Obasanjo’s achievements in government and his thoughts on current issues in Nigeria.
He underlined the role of divine intervention in leadership, according to him, leaders chosen by God are more likely to succeed.
However, he argued that not all leaders are chosen by God and explained that some leaders rise to power through self-interest or other negative influences.
He highlighted the importance of recognizing the influence of Satan in leadership, drawing from the Biblical story of Job, Obasanjo noted that Satan has power, which should not be underestimated and warned that leaders influenced by negative forces are likely to fail.
“So I will say most leaders are prepared by God and they put in place by God and when that happens the chances of success are higher than when you make yourself a leader which may not be the act of God.”
“And again people saying all leaders are made by God, I don’t accept that. A leader can also be made by Satan. In the case of Job, you can remember Satan was going up and down and went before God and God was commending Job but Satan said Job was upright to God because he has gotten from God.”
“We must accept that Satan is real and he has power, he has no salvation but he has power and the power of Satan must not be underrated,” Obasanjo stated.
