The EFCC Spokesperson, Dele Oyewale has finally revealed why the former Governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello was not arrested by the EFCC when he initially walked into the EFCC premises with the Kogi state governor, Usman Ododo. He indicated that there was a main reason for not arresting Yahaya Bello by the commission when he first appeared before the EFCC.

He clarified that it is within the agency’s discretion to choose whether to arrest someone present within its premises. He stated that the the former Governor will be presented in Court for lawful arraignment following his arrest in the early hours of today.

He said in an interview with TVC from 3:52, ”He has been arrested and he is in our custody. We will present him before the court and he will be arraigned lawfully. And so, the fact of being tried in absentia is no longer standing. We have him in our custody and we are going to arraign him before the court.

What happened at the other time is that we had a reason for not arresting him. And that should tell you that someone can be in your premises and you might choose to arrest him, and you might choose not to arrest him. When he originally came, we did not arrest him, and now we have arrested him, and he’s in our custody.”
