General Godwin Alabi Isama (rtd), has stated he can speak Hausa language well because his mother was a Muslim from the northern part of Nigeria

In a video from 12:54 shared by BBC News Africa, General Isama said his father was from Kwale in the Niger Delta. He said he grew up with strong ties to both the Igbo people and people from the North.

Genera Isama said during the Nigerian Civil War, some members of his unit wanted him to eliminate Igbo people. However, he said he did not want to do that because of his personal connection to Igbos

My father was from the minority in the Niger Delta, a place called Kwale so I grew up to be a part of the Igbos and a part of the north mostly.
