Salihu Lukman, a former member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee, has promised to campaign against President Bola Tinubu and the APC-led government ahead of the 2027 elections, as reported by VANGUARD.

Lukman, who once strongly supported Tinubu’s presidential ambition, said he is disappointed with the president’s leadership.

According to him, Tinubu has drifted away from the promises he made to Nigerians during his campaign.

Lukman made these statements during an interview on Arise TV’s The Morning Show on Tuesday, February 4, 2024.

The former APC chieftain explained that he backed Tinubu because he believed the former Lagos State governor was a true democrat and a progressive leader.

Lukman said he had faith in Tinubu’s leadership qualities, but that changed after observing his actions in office.

He stated that he supported Tinubu because he believed he was committed to democratic values.

However, he feels the president has shown arrogance and has not stayed true to the promises he made.

Lukman also challenged President Tinubu to prove him wrong.

He stated that if the president corrected his course and fulfilled his promises, he would publicly apologize for his criticism.

However, he insisted that as long as Tinubu continues on his current path, he will not stop speaking against him.

He added that he is ready to admit he was wrong if Tinubu proves otherwise.

But until then, he will continue to stand against him and the APC administration.

“I had the conviction that President Asiwaju is truly a progressive politician and a Democrat, which was why I invested my support in him, but once I saw him departing from those beliefs I had, I didn’t wait any longer. And I was not pushed by anybody. I am humble enough to admit that my 2023 judgement was wrong.”

“It is a challenge for President Asiwaju to prove many of us wrong, and if he did so, I would be the first to come out and apologise again, I was wrong, but to the extent that he continues arrogantly in the direction he’s going, without remorse that he has departed from all the promises he made to Nigerians, I have no apology to him, and I will continue to stand and campaign against both the APC and his administration. I have no apology for him, and I will continue to stand and campaign against him and the APC administration,” he said.
