Ikechukwu Amaechi, the Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of Acclaim Communication Limited, has warned that a renewed presidential ambition by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar could unintentionally strengthen President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s position ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking during the Breakfast Central Newspaper Front Page Review on News Central TV, Amaechi noted that if the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) fields Atiku once again as its candidate, it may result in a political backlash across the southern region.

According to him, such a move could unify the South behind President Tinubu, even among citizens who previously held opposing views about the APC leader.

He explained that the decision to present another Northern candidate in 2027 could further intensify the South’s push for political equity and regional balance, particularly after years of leadership from the North and now the South-West.

Amaechi urged opposition parties to avoid repeating past mistakes and instead rally behind a credible Southern candidate who can command nationwide support.

He maintained that the path to defeating the ruling party in the next election requires strategic collaboration, unity, and sensitivity to regional sentiments.

His remarks come amid growing speculation about Atiku’s possible return to the race and the broader power struggle shaping up within Nigeria’s political landscape.
