According to Freedom, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has raised alarm over a growing alliance between Russia, Iran and North Korea, warning it poses a significant threat to the United States and global stability.
In an interview with The Associated Press, Zelenskyy described the alliance as an unprecedented coalition with strategic and military implications.
“For the first time in decades, Russia has officially demonstrated its alliance by involving Iran and North Korea.
Yes, they had relations before, exchanging technology, weapons, and so on, but now they have actively brought them into the war. Iran is supplying weapons, North Korea is providing both weapons and troops.
This is a separate alliance. As of today, North Korea, Russia, and Iran form a concrete alliance against Ukraine and the entire West.
I believe this is, in fact, an alliance against the United States, Zelenskyy stated.
The Ukrainian leader highlighted that North Korean troops currently stationed in Russia’s Kursk region are gaining combat experience in the war against Ukraine, which could have ripple effects in the Asia-Pacific region.
“This is happening now, and it is very dangerous for the United States and for many countries in that region, Zelenskyy emphasized.
Despite the emerging threats, Zelenskyy assured that Ukraine continues to receive unwavering support from the United States and European Union nations.
He acknowledged the critical role of financial and military assistance in sustaining Ukraine’s defenses.
“So far, we have received no signals that U.S. support will stop. This is important, and we are grateful for it.
Likewise, there is no indication that European Union countries, especially the United Kingdom, will stop their assistance. All this aid is backed by our bilateral agreements and security guarantees,” he said.
Ukraine’s domestic production, he noted, accounts for approximately 40% of its military capabilities, with the remainder sourced from European nations and the United States. However, Zelenskyy underscored the importance of expanding Ukraine’s defense industry.
“Technological advancements require immediate adaptation, and we cannot always wait for aid from the West.
For example, drones and electronic warfare systems are changing rapidly. That’s why we rely on our own capabilities, Zelenskyy explained.
Zelenskyy also discussed a significant preventive operation in the Kursk region, which played a key role in thwarting Russian plans for an offensive targeting Sumy and Kharkiv.
“This operation helped us in a key way. We faced a significant risk that, by today, the cities of Sumy and Kharkiv could have been either under constant heavy shelling or partially occupied.
This was a truly preventive operation, a very smart move, and it was unexpected, he said.
While the operation was kept confidential, it disrupted Russia’s plans for another northern offensive. Zelenskyy added that although Sumy and Kharkiv remain under threat from missile and bomb strikes, the preventive measures have provided critical relief for the region.
NATO recently showcased the importance of this operation by screening a documentary titled Operation Kursk at its headquarters in Belgium.
As tensions rise, Ukraine continues to brace for challenges, with Zelenskyy emphasizing the importance of Western support and the resilience of domestic defense production.
