Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, were reported to have intensified consultations with regional power blocs in a bid to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

According to The Punch, some groups loyal to the President, on their part, were said to be meeting with influential political and religious leaders to boost Tinubu’s chances of securing re-election.

It was reported that since July, when the coalition leaders unveiled the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as their political platform for the 2027 polls, they had begun to take deliberate steps to drive their agenda.

Figures within the ADC, including the former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, were said to have embarked on tours of several states, among them Lagos, Imo, Oyo, Jigawa, Kano, Kaduna, and Borno.

However, it was gathered that the tempo of these activities had increased in recent weeks as the group held multiple meetings with regional blocs and influential stakeholders. Last Thursday, Atiku was said to have visited the former Minister of Communications, Prof. Ali Isa Pantami, at his residence.

While Pantami explained that their discussions centred on issues such as the economy, education, and governance, sources disclosed that the meeting was not unconnected to the coalition’s broader political agenda.

In an interview with Sunday Punch, Sola Fasure, who serves as media aide to the ADC National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, explained that the former Osun State governor had been engaging actively with the party’s leadership across the South West to advance the anti-Tinubu movement.

Fasure stated that what was happening was essentially a realignment of political forces. He added that Aregbesola was working not only at the national level with other party leaders but also at the sub-national levels—regional and state—by collaborating with leaders in those areas.

Further talking, he said, “They are strengthening the party and managing the influx of people from the established APC and PDP. You will also notice that all the leaders have stopped talking, there is a reason to that. It is because they are busy now doing political education and strengthening and organising the party from the ward level upward and that’s what will make the party stronger.” See, More, Here>>>>
