President Bola Ahmed Tinubu hosted selected members of the Senate leadership for an Iftar dinner at Aso Rock, where Senate President Godswill Akpabio expressed gratitude for the President’s support of the 10th Senate.
In a video posted by Viable TV, Senator Akpabio humorously acknowledged Tinubu’s directive to keep his speech brief, saying, “Mr President, you already warned me not to talk for long otherwise I will pay for this dinner. So I have no intention of making a long speech.”
Akpabio, leading a delegation of key Senate figures, including Senator Yar’Adua, whom he described as “our own imam,” praised Tinubu for his continuous engagement with the legislature.
“We want to thank you for your magnanimity. We are not all complete. We came with selected leaders, we thank you for this invitation,” he said.
He commended the President for his cooperation with the Senate, particularly in legislative matters, stating, “First, let me thank you on behalf of my colleagues for all the support you have given to us in the 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
We have passed many legislations, and we have never stopped signing them, assenting them into laws.”
Akpabio also emphasized the Senate’s prompt response to executive requests, assuring Tinubu that lawmakers view presidential correspondences as beneficial to national progress.
“We have never really delayed anything that comes from you. In fact, we look forward to presidential correspondence because we know that whatever you bring is for the good of the country,” he added.
The event which brought together key government figures shows the strong relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government under Tinubu’s administration.
