Former Nigerian Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has criticized U.S. President Donald Trump for allegedly attempting to interfere in Israeli judicial proceedings involving Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In a strongly worded tweet posted on Wednesday, Fani-Kayode questioned Trump’s stance on the Israeli legal system and accused him of undermining judicial independence.
Responding to a reported Truth Social post where Trump pleaded for leniency towards Netanyahu, who is facing ongoing criminal charges in a Tel Aviv court, Fani-Kayode wrote:
“I thought Israel had the fairest legal system in the world & now you seek to subvert it because Bibi stands accused? Is he above the law? We know Israel is above the law but is their PM above the law too?”
The outspoken politician didn’t stop there. He also referenced Trump’s past actions in response to international legal scrutiny of Israeli leadership,
“You threatened the ICC when they issued an arrest warrant for him & now you are telling the Israeli courts to leave him alone too?”
Netanyahu has been on trial since 2020, facing charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust. Trump, known for his close ties with the Israeli leader has often come to Netanyahu’s defense. Fani-Kayode’s remarks reflect growing global unease about political interference in judicial processes.
The case has sparked intense debate in Israel and internationally, with critics warning against efforts to delegitimize independent legal institutions. Fani-Kayode’s comments have added a fresh voice to the conversation, calling out what he sees as hypocrisy and selective application of justice.
As Netanyahu’s court appearance looms, the political stakes are high, not just in Israel but across the global stage where alliances and influence continue to shape narratives around justice and accountability.
