According to Daily Post, Archbishop Yiman Orkwar, General Overseer of All Nations Evangelism Ministry (ANEM) and President of the Christian Association of Clergies in Nigeria (CAC-Nig), has said that only those who support or fund terrorism should be concerned about President Donald Trump’s warning of intervention over genocide in Nigeria.
He made this comment while speaking with journalists in Makurdi amid reports of renewed attacks by armed herdsmen.
Archbishop Orkwar asked, “If you are not a terrorist or a sponsor of terrorism, why should you be afraid?”
He said, “Trump didn’t say he’s coming to overthrow Tinubu’s government. He said he’ll come after terrorists.”
He added that if Nigerian leaders cannot protect citizens, they should collaborate with the U.S. to remove these threats.
The cleric described the ongoing violence as “genocide”, referencing mass burials in Benue and Plateau States as proof of the scale of the atrocities.
“Christians are being persecuted in Nigeria that is a fact. Men, women, and children are being killed, lands seized, and farms set ablaze. What else qualifies as genocide?” he asked.
Orkwar criticised successive administrations for lacking the political will to confront the perpetrators, noting that the situation worsened under the previous government and continues under President Tinubu.
“Tinubu began with intentions to act, but now he seems distracted by 2027. If he cannot halt the killings, he should cooperate with Trump.
The terrorists are foreigners, yet those who facilitated their entry are still free,” he said.
He further urged the Federal Government to officially declare armed herdsmen as terrorists, explaining that doing so would enable security agencies to respond more effectively.
“You don’t negotiate with terrorists. Once you do, they’ll use your money to buy more arms,” he warned.
Orkwar dismissed concerns that U.S. involvement could undermine Nigeria’s sovereignty, emphasising that international action is justified when genocide occurs.
“Genocide is not merely a domestic problem; it is a global issue. If the U.S. offers assistance, we should consider it a chance to act, not a threat,” he noted.
The cleric concluded by urging Nigerian leaders to take urgent action:
“Our leaders must stop politicising human lives. Every Nigerian life is important. If Trump wants to help eliminate terrorism, the government should cooperate.
“We cannot continue like this people are being slaughtered daily, and our nation is becoming the saddest place on earth.” View, More,
