Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State recently received a visit from Muslim leaders in the state during the Salah celebration. This visit came after his suspension from office following the declaration of a state of emergency. During the meeting, he addressed the leaders, urging them to remain patient and peaceful despite the ongoing challenges in the state.
In a video that was shared by SYMFONI TV, Governor Fubara used a biblical reference to emphasize patience, comparing their situation to the story of Noah, who waited patiently for even the slowest animals, like snails, to enter the ark. He encouraged the Muslim leaders to avoid provocation, saying that those who seek to cause trouble only aim to destroy the state and disrupt people’s livelihoods. He reassured them that his administration would continue to operate peacefully and respect lawful authorities to maintain stability in Rivers State.
In a lighter moment, Governor Fubara playfully noted that the Muslim leaders had come to visit him without bringing a cow, which is traditionally given as a gift during Salah celebrations. He reminded them that they should not forget to bring one next time. This humorous remark brought a sense of camaraderie and eased tensions during the meeting.
“Unfortunately, you didn’t even come with any cow; why now? Okay, the one they used to bring is later, so I have just reminded you, so when it gets to that one, bring it,” he said.
The governor also drew a comparison between their struggles and the experiences of Prophet Muhammad, highlighting how patience ultimately led to victory. He expressed confidence that God would see them through their challenges.
He also wished them a peaceful celebration and reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that Rivers State remains a place of peace and progress.
