In an Interview from 0.08, Former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has criticized Governor Siminalayi Fubara over his attempt to present the state budget. Wike made this statement during a media chat while reacting to the recent standoff at the Rivers State House of Assembly complex.
Governor Fubara had gone to present the budget to the Martins Amaewhule-led Assembly after a Supreme Court ruling required him to do so. However, the Assembly complex was locked, preventing him from gaining access.
Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), condemned Fubara’s approach, saying it was improper. He argued that if the governor had written to the Assembly, he should have waited for their response instead of showing up unexpectedly.
He compared the situation to the National Assembly, saying that even the President of Nigeria does not simply walk in without prior arrangements. Wike also pointed out that the Assembly had been holding sittings outside the complex since it was damaged, making Fubara’s visit even more unnecessary.
“You brought the Assembly Complex down; the assembly now sits in their residence; if they are coming, they have children; they will say the governor is coming today, and there will be a lot of security. So they have to prepare themselves. You can’t just go and say open the gate I’m coming to present,” he said.
He accused the governor of trying to gain public sympathy by playing to the gallery and seeking media attention. According to Wike, such actions only create drama instead of solving the issue properly.
