All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Kassim Afegbua, has criticized former President Goodluck Jonathan’s record in the South-South, insisting that his leadership left little to show for the region despite campaign promises.
Speaking in an interview with Channels TV from 24:41, Afegbua warned against attempts to market Jonathan’s 2027 presidential ambition, stressing that his people would not be swayed. “You can’t come to my village and you want to come and preach Goodluck Jonathan to us when in the South-South we knew that he didn’t impact positively on the entire South-South in terms of projects—and this is just being factual. Go and cross-check,” he said.
He recalled Jonathan’s 2015 campaign pledge that he would dedicate his second term to developing the South-South but argued that the promise never materialized. “I remember when he was campaigning for his election in 2015, he said when he gets the second term that he’s going to focus on the South-South. Those are not the kind of rhetoric I want to be hearing at this point in time,” Afegbua declared.
According to the APC chieftain, Jonathan’s lack of visible projects in his home region is enough reason why his name should not be pushed forward for the 2027 presidential race.
