A tense moment unfolded in the Nigerian Senate on Tuesday when Senator Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa West) openly rebuked Senate President Godswill Akpabio, stating, “You are not the President of Nigeria.”

The confrontation occurred during a debate on a motion related to national security and fiscal oversight. Akpabio allegedly attempted to limit contributions from certain senators, prompting Dickson to rise and challenge his conduct.

“Mr. President, with due respect, you are not the President of Nigeria. This is the Senate, and we all have equal voices here,” Dickson asserted.

“We are elected to represent our people, and you cannot continue to act in a way that stifles this legislative body,” he added.

Akpabio responded by saying, “I have no intention of overriding anyone’s opinion. My duty is to maintain order and ensure decorum in this chamber.”

The session briefly went into a closed-door meeting afterward. No formal statements have been issued by either lawmaker since the exchange.
