According to a report by The Times of Israel on August 11, 2025, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir has praised outgoing US Central Command (CENTCOM) chief Gen. Michael Kurilla for his deep and lasting contributions to Israel’s security.
Kurilla, who ended his tenure last week, has been recognized for strengthening military cooperation between Israel and the United States during a particularly turbulent period marked by the ongoing war in Gaza and escalating tensions with Iran.
Zamir’s remarks were made in the context of a farewell tribute, highlighting the personal and strategic ties forged during Kurilla’s leadership.
The American general visited Israel several weeks ago as Zamir’s official guest. During that trip, the IDF chief credited Kurilla for advancing US military assistance to Israel — assistance he described as vital during the Gaza campaign and in Operation Rising Lion, a joint military initiative targeting Iranian threats.
According to Zamir, that operation delivered “significant results” in curbing hostile capabilities.
In a personal message, Zamir told Kurilla: “You are a true friend of Israel and have laid the foundations for a safer future for our children and grandchildren.”
He praised Kurilla’s leadership not only for operational successes but also for fostering trust, building enduring friendships, and enhancing interoperability between the two militaries.
The IDF described its relationship with US forces as a “strategic asset” that provides Israel with an operational advantage in the Middle East.
Military analysts note that such cooperation is especially critical now, as Israel faces complex battlefield challenges and shifting geopolitical pressures.
Zamir’s comments come amid a broader effort by Israeli officials to emphasize the depth of security ties with Washington, even as disagreements occasionally surface over specific war strategies.
