In a recent interview from 40:21 on Symfoni TV on Monday, November 24, 2025, Oladimeji Fabiyi, a senior chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), spoke on the public confrontation between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Lieutenant A.M. Yerima during a land dispute in Abuja. Fabiyi described the incident as a clash of authority, pointing to how political leaders sometimes prioritize demonstrating power over resolving matters diplomatically.
Fabiyi stated, “Why should Wike go there and meet the guy? He just wants to show that I’m the minister,” referring to Wike’s decision to personally confront Lieutenant Yerima, who was sent by his superior to protect the land. According to Fabiyi, the encounter reflected more about asserting authority than the land itself and highlighted political posturing that undermines professionalism.
He criticized Wike for what he described as a display of ego, emphasizing that such actions erode public confidence in leadership and distract from addressing critical issues. Fabiyi stressed that ministers and political leaders should prioritize dialogue and constructive engagement rather than staging confrontations to assert dominance.
Fabiyi further noted that incidents like the Wike-Yerima encounter reinforce the perception that political leaders often prioritize personal image and control over service to the public. He warned that repeated displays of this nature could weaken institutions and diminish the credibility of officeholders.
He concluded that while leaders naturally wield authority, power must be exercised with humility, respect, and professionalism. Fabiyi urged political actors to focus on collaboration, dialogue, and problem-solving, stressing that personal showmanship should never take precedence over responsibility to the public. View, More,
